I received an email from a person who said that she doesn't believe in alternative medicine and could I explain Reiki to her. So this is what I replied to her:
Thanks for your honesty. I’ll be honest too.
“Alternative” medicine was practised long before conventional medicine.
Conventional medicine should be called “alternative” medicine because it
hasn’t been around as long. There is a place for everything.
You replied to my ad for a reason... perhaps you have been losing your temper lately
or maybe you are just interested in Reiki. I don’t know, I am just taking two
guesses because I don’t know you. Let’s say for example that you are feeling angry often – if you go to a
GP or psychiatrist you will probably be given medicine which will hopefully take
away the feelings of anger. Unfortunately all that this does is cover over what is really happening
inside you and numbs the pain but the reason for the original anger is still
inside you and you will have to deal with it at some stage or stay on medication
forever.
Reiki is a very quiet form of healing. The patient lies on the bed fully clothed and just relaxes while the
Reiki practitioner gently puts her hands on the patient using specific parts of the body which are generally known as energy centres or on any part of the body where the practitioner intuitively feels she should place her hands. I personally pray to G-d before every healing and during the healing when I need guidance.
As the Reiki practitioner, I get physical feelings in my own body (e.g. pain in my foot) which I then discuss with the patient after the session. Because of my love for this work and my passion for finding the mind/body/spiritual connection to health I am reasonably intuitive about why a person is suffering from a particular pain. I am not sure if all Reiki practitioners have the same experience. This is an extremely short explanation for what I experience as the Reiki practitioner.
Reiki is very hard to explain. I call it spiritual energy healing because G-d is very much involved when I work and there is a palpable energy that I and sometimes the patient feels. What I do know is that when people have Reiki with me they do experience something good and positive. Sometimes it can be emotional (if something emotional comes up) and we can talk about it and find solutions to whatever the problem or issue may be.
I would recommend that you look up how in America they are using Reiki in the
hospitals and hospices to help with recovery from surgery and with helping
people deal with pain and stress. Reiki is very relaxing and that relaxation in itself can lend to the
body’s immune system improving. Have a look at http://www.reiki.org/reikinews/reiki_in_hospitals.html
I have been doing Reiki for about twelve years and I still find it a mystery but a
wonderful mystery.
I am not trying to convince you to have a Reiki Session with me but what is the
worst that can happen?
